Getting to Durham, UK
🛬 Air
The closest major airport to Durham is Newcastle International Airport (NCL) – approximately 25 miles (40 kilometres) away.
To get from Newcastle Airport to Durham by public transport, take the Tyne & Wear Metro to Central Station (the main railway station in Newcastle). A single ticket costs around GBP 5. Trains run to Durham roughly four times per hour and cost 4-5 GBP. Total journey time is approximately 60 minutes.
A taxi or Uber from Newcastle Airport to Durham takes around 45 minutes.
🚊 Rail
Durham is easily accessible by rail from major cities throughout Great Britain. There are regular trains from, for instance, Edinburgh (under 2 hours), London King’s Cross (approximately 3 hours).
Durham is around 15 minutes by train from the larger city of Newcastle upon Tyne. With trains running roughly four times per hour and a single ticket costing 4-5 GBP, Newcastle is a good option for entertainment, sightseeing, and accommodation (see below).

Durham is about 30 minutes south of Newcastle upon Tyne by car on the A1(M).

Conference venues and tourist information
The conference will be held in a small collection of venues, all well within 5 minutes’ walk of each other. They are clustered around Durham Cathedral at the heart of the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Registration
Information about registration and fees for in-person and online conference participation will be posted in April 2026.
Presenting online
Contributors who present an online paper remotely will be required to submit a video of their full presentation in advance. To minimise issues with connection, sound and video, it will not be possible to give a live online presentation. Online presenters are, however, asked to be in attendance for 15 minutes of Q&A after their video presentation has been played.
Please upload your video file in a standard format (ideally .mp4) to the conference’s cloud storage location. Videos should be uploaded at least 24 hours before your presentation to allow for testing and to address any technical issues.
